Thean Chun Restaurant (天津茶室) @ Ipoh Old Town, Ipoh

Sometime don't know where to eat in Ipoh, although there's too much delicious food at here.
From breakfast until supper, no problem to look for food, provided if u have transport.
Feeling boring if u keep continue having lunch at the same area, thus today lunch will fetch mom to something never been before.
After called sister to join with us, then we are heading to Ipoh Old Town (is real town, not the brand OldTown) to have lunch there.
Found 1 restaurant which I was visited before, but I was forgotten until I sit back and look on the environment, then only I was reliased I had visited this restaurant 10years ago.
Something special in this restaurant was, Eat-All-U-Can Satay only can be found at this place, but pay later. In the past, each of the tables will be served with 1 plate with full of Satay. U can immediately enjoy the satay, before u left then only the boss will count how many sticks on ur table. Is quite fun and never eaten like this before. But some friends complain that it might not hygiene after putting on the table for longer period, or it might be not hot anymore. If u want to eat fresh Satay, which is just burnt few minutes ago, u can request the boss to change or refill another bundle of Satay. They're happily to do that.

Ipoh Satay, RM0.70 per stick
2 choices, either pork meat or chicken meat.
The meat is slightly different compare the malay style satay. It's more juicy and chewy. The size is similar to Kajang Satay. The Satay must dip into the peanut sweet sauce. U can taste the peanut aroma in the sauce.

Kuey Teow Chicken (鸡丝河粉), RM4.00 (small)
The Kuey Teow is very smoothly entering into the mouth.
The soup is tasty, but slightly oily. The oil is a bit reddish, but that's very important to make sure the kuey teow is smooth.
The Chicken meat is slightly rough, perhaps it's breast meat.
The prawn is fresh and tasty.
This is 1 of the original & best Kuey Teow Chicken soup that u can find in Ipoh town. The soup is slightly thicker chicken taste.

Due to ovewhelming respond in this place, thus we had no extra tables when we came and we had to share with other customers.
We just sit beside their stall, but they putting the collection area (include rubbish, fork, spoon, and the bowl will be collected and wash again.) just beside the stall. for me, that's not so hygiene.

After we placed an order, we were in the waitlist and wait for more than 40minutes before the food being served.
As u can see, the list is not only 1 page, actually behind and few more pages also.

View of the shop:

The Kuey Teow Chicken stall

Overall the ingredient are fresh, portion is consider just enough to fulfill my stomach.
The taste is delicious, food appearance is tempting and make me mouth-watering.
The pricing is reasonable, no tax (Service Tax + Government Tax).
The food variety is very limited, only few stalls in this shop.
The environment is very crowded, it might be due to school holiday and lunch hour. Thus, the peoples are fully occupied this shop and no extra seats until u have to share with others.
The service is okay.

Kedai Kopi Choy On Yoon (财安园茶室) @ Menglembu, Ipoh

In the past, every hour in the afternoon sharp, u’ll see crowded standing near the kitchen waiting to buy the Bao (Cantonese bun).

Is not giving for free, but most of the customers can wait until the Bao can be sold.

The Bao Sifu (Master / Expert Bao maker) can control when’s the right timing to steam the Bao and find the best of the best ingredients to be used.

But it’s over, no such scenery can be seen anymore.

By rumors, the Bao Sifu was left and reopen at the other restaurant after some argument with the son of boss.

End up, both places that sell the Bao was not delicious anymore.

There’re variety of Bao in this shop. The common Bao that u can see in DimSum restaurant is Cha Siu Bao (or Char Siu Bao is a Cantonese barbecue-pork-filled bun, Mandarin pronoun it as BaoZi).

The best Bao skin is soft, think layer and it won’t stick in your mouth when u are chewing the food before swallow. Although u didn’t drink water (or any beverage), you still can swallow the Bao skin gently.

Besides that, the best Barbecued Pork filling is not overcook or too fat.

The paste also important to make the Bao perfect, it should be not too sweet or watery.

That day just bought Curry Chicken Bao, RM1.50 and Kaya Bao, RM1.30

…taste awful if u eat after few hours. sticky and smells disgusting.

Although the Bao in this shop is not the best anymore, but the Wantan Mee quality still maintain.

…never seen Wantan Mee stall with so many ingredients on the counter.

The Barbecued Pork meat is well cook, Wantan is big size like a PingPong, tempting dumplings (饺子) with lots of filling, and finally the Wantan Mee is chewy and mix with black soya sauce.

Wah Chai Seafood (华仔酒家) @ Menglembu, Ipoh

Hmm…this restaurant had been operated for almost a decade…

I think for local people should be known this place very well.

Some families will give a rest day for housewife and dinner at outside.

Thus, they’ll looking at those “煮炒” (or called Sizzling Woks) restaurant nearby.

In the past, there’ll only few options to choose, where to eat and what to eat.

1 of the famous restaurant is this.

From time to time, they’re added multiple and variety of foods.

If u can’t read Chinese, u can order from the picture. I saw 1 Indian couple did.

Some foods that cannot been found at outside… like trademark for this restaurant.

Besides that, some special additional merit about this restaurant, it’s using sliding roof with remote control.

At night, u can see the sky and count the stars. :-)

For some new visitors, they’ll get shocked when they were seeing this.

Let’s come back to talk about foods & beverage.

Steaming Codfish (清蒸雪鱼), RM54.00 (depending on market price & weight)

...Fresh, Smooth, Shinning, Taste awesome...Price also awesome...

They’ll provide free raw garlic in small plate & cut in small pieces. ** Upon Request

Is nice when u mix it with fish.

It had been proven that it’s anti-oxidize food.

Some people believe that it can prevent cancer too.

Mix Vegetables (罗汉斋), RM9.00

...Great taste...with thick sauce...

Asparagus cook with prawn (卢笋虾球), RM15.00

The prawns are fresh, solid and chewy (扎实和弹牙).

But overall the food is a bit spicy.

Kampung Chicken (胡须鸡(半只)), RM21.00

The skin is dark yellowish.

More chicken taste compare with normal farm chicken.

But the meat is slightly harder.

It comes with pepper sauce, as a condiment.

For u to dip the chicken.

Slightly spicy and sweet.

In the past, they’ll sell homemade herbal tea (凉茶), but now they just bought from others.

1 cup @ RM2.00

…Over sweet… not good for diabetes.

The rest is Rice, RM1.20 and Tissue, RM1.20.

Is better u give back the tissue and change with a bowl or rice or just deduct it.

This restaurant also can be used for Wedding, Birthday Celebration, Baby Full Month Celebration, and other functions or events.

忠记兵如港口大树头炸料粉 (大树脚) @ Pasir Pinji, Ipoh

Wherever u are, as long as in Ipoh, once u think u want to take lunch and thinking about Laksa with deep fried stuff, for sure u’ll remember here.

A place where u can see crowd every day...

Once u see the deep fried stuff, u might get crazy and take it like free.

In any Malaysian holiday, here for sure will be crowded and most of the customers are madly grabbing like they are seeing bunch of gold.

Is so yummy....best recommendation for those who loves crunchy food..

price list

...reasonable.

Or similar with Yong Tau Foo.

But today a little oily…

These 2 bowls of tofu cubes and 1 bowl of thick rice noodles (known as Laksa noodles) cost me RM13.20.

There’s variety of drinks at here, some might u can’t find in other place.

Prefer take red bean blend, RM3.00

…its filling.

Other foods are available too, Lobak Kueh Kak, RM3.00

Is soft, tasty, full of Taugeh… yummy…

Wantan Mee, RM3.80

u have to ask for char siew, otherwise they won’t give.

Diffrent with Seremban.

Normal taste.

Restaurant Hao Tack Fook (有口福咖啡店) @ Ipoh

有口福, it should be meaning that lucky to have food at here.

Well, 1 of my favorite restaurant, because I like 醉鸡面线.

Zhui Ji Mian Xian (醉鸡面线), RM4.70

Added some wine, the soup is so tasty and aroma with wine.

Another option u can choose is Zhui Xia Mian Xian (醉虾面线)

Who Dan Ho (滑蛋河) , RM4.00

This WDH is not so tasty compare to WDH that sold at Menglembu Market.

The combination is not so perfect.

Once the food is slightly not hot, it’ll turn to waterish.

Zhu Pi (猪皮), RM2.00

This ZP is quite nice, chewy and elastic, Taiwanese said it’s QQ.

The curry sauce also match with this food, not so spicy.

The advantage of having this food is… it’s categorized as collagen food. Believe or not? Is up to u…^_^

Mix fish ball /cake (杂料), RM6.60

Quite standard food… not so special.

Leong Cha (凉茶), RM2.50 (2 cups, 1 with ice, another 1 without ice)

Location is just beside SMK Seri Keledang @ Lorong Kledang Timur 10, Menglembu

Restaurant Up To You (随便你茶餐室) @ Ipoh

If ur friend ask u where do u want to eat breakfast, but u have no idea at all… tell them…随便你.

This shop is really exist, and the F&B at there is tasty too. Also my mom’s favorite.

It’s just nearby my secondary school, SMK Seri Keledang.

Every time I go, every time it’s almost full.

Mix fish ball /cake (杂料), RM4.20

Whenever I at Ipoh having breakfast with mom, will order this.

Because this food can fill up ur stomach before the main course while u waiting, before u “hungry died” (饿死).

Pou Zai Mian (褒仔面), RM3.70 (add egg)

The ingredient and soup is tasty.

But be careful when it’s served, so hot and the soup is still boiling.

The stall not only sell Pou Zai Mian, also Ban Mee.

Ban Mee (板面), RM3.00 (add-on vegetable is RM3.50)

Thin layer ban mee, so smooth.

Taste of the soup is heavy aroma of dried anchovies, is not MSG taste.

Leong Cha (凉茶-龙眼), RM1.40

Not too sweet, just nice.

With ingredient inside, not only plain water.

Kopi Ais, RM1.60

Aroma of the coffee is tasty, milk is just nice.

Address:

万里望新市镇

Jalan Kledang Timur 1, Menglembu, Ipoh, Perak.

Tang Sui Street (糖水街) @ Ipoh

Dinner / Supper time @ Tang Sui Street which is located at Jalan Sultan Ekram, which is behind Sam Tet School.

Is very old street where most of the Ipoh-ian will know this place.

Many delicious food, tasty and cheap food & beverage.

Mix fruit ABC (雜果雪), RM4.00

It’s mix too many different types of fruits until I have to put 2 pictures.

Contains Ice Cream, Mango, Watermelon, Lychee, Honeydew, Nut, Dragon Fruit, Papaya, Nangka, Long Yan, Pineapple, Nata de Coco, and something biji-biji (don’t know called what?)

Too many fresh cut fruits in this bowl, I had to finish it with 1 more person.

The stall is @ 41.

Compare with other stall’s mix fruit ABC, I still prefer the ABC from this stall because the portion is the biggest amongst all.

Other stall mix fruit ABC

Normal ABC

Bihun Mee Goreng

RM4.30

With Clam, Prawn, Egg.

Clam was fried with the mee, prefer this cooking style. Not like others, bloody clam.

Prawn is medium size.

Overall taste is nice.

But I prefer the Curry Mee from this stall #42.

The curry taste is delicious and the ingredient is nice.

No chance to buy the 鸭脚包, close on Thursday.

Only this stall sell this special food. Taste like Ba Gua (肉干) or Lobak (卤肉).

Some friends told me, once u eat it, sure u’ll like it and dream will also thinking about it.
