Snoopy Mooncake @ Straits Quay, Penang

Today is Mid-Autumn festival (中秋節), should be celebrating with family or lover by sitting in the balcony or lounge and enjoying Mooncake (月餅) and some refreshment, I prefer rose tea. Adding with nice Tanglung and candle light decoration at the playground... wau… how nice in my dreaming life.

But… sigh… no such enjoyable moment in my real life. Just a fantastic dream.

This year Mid-Autumn festival didn’t celebrate at all.

Had to work, thus I had “celebrated” early with lover by eaten the Snoopy Mooncake as our breakfast. Funny right?

Bought 2 different flavors Mooncakes, Tiramisu and Chocolate. Only sell during Mid-Autumn festival.

Tiramisu

… comment by friend, the aroma of essence oil is more heavier than the tiramisu coffee taste. Not nice.

Chocolate

The taste is just normal like other brand chocolate Mooncake with lotus seed paste (蓮蓉) filling.

Inside the ingredient not only chocolate, also with some sesame seeds. Overall is nice, but nothing special except the Snoopy cartoon on the top of the Mooncake.

Pricelist

Consider reasonable, but no discount.

Also will have my belated celebration with family after finishing my work.

Back hometown and celebrate with again with traditional Mooncake.

4 different flavors of Mooncake, which is Dragonfruit, Chocolate, Teochew original taste, and Sambal Mooncake.

Will comment after this.

Wah Chai Seafood (华仔酒家) @ Menglembu, Ipoh

Hmm…this restaurant had been operated for almost a decade…

I think for local people should be known this place very well.

Some families will give a rest day for housewife and dinner at outside.

Thus, they’ll looking at those “煮炒” (or called Sizzling Woks) restaurant nearby.

In the past, there’ll only few options to choose, where to eat and what to eat.

1 of the famous restaurant is this.

From time to time, they’re added multiple and variety of foods.

If u can’t read Chinese, u can order from the picture. I saw 1 Indian couple did.

Some foods that cannot been found at outside… like trademark for this restaurant.

Besides that, some special additional merit about this restaurant, it’s using sliding roof with remote control.

At night, u can see the sky and count the stars. :-)

For some new visitors, they’ll get shocked when they were seeing this.

Let’s come back to talk about foods & beverage.

Steaming Codfish (清蒸雪鱼), RM54.00 (depending on market price & weight)

...Fresh, Smooth, Shinning, Taste awesome...Price also awesome...

They’ll provide free raw garlic in small plate & cut in small pieces. ** Upon Request

Is nice when u mix it with fish.

It had been proven that it’s anti-oxidize food.

Some people believe that it can prevent cancer too.

Mix Vegetables (罗汉斋), RM9.00

...Great taste...with thick sauce...

Asparagus cook with prawn (卢笋虾球), RM15.00

The prawns are fresh, solid and chewy (扎实和弹牙).

But overall the food is a bit spicy.

Kampung Chicken (胡须鸡(半只)), RM21.00

The skin is dark yellowish.

More chicken taste compare with normal farm chicken.

But the meat is slightly harder.

It comes with pepper sauce, as a condiment.

For u to dip the chicken.

Slightly spicy and sweet.

In the past, they’ll sell homemade herbal tea (凉茶), but now they just bought from others.

1 cup @ RM2.00

…Over sweet… not good for diabetes.

The rest is Rice, RM1.20 and Tissue, RM1.20.

Is better u give back the tissue and change with a bowl or rice or just deduct it.

This restaurant also can be used for Wedding, Birthday Celebration, Baby Full Month Celebration, and other functions or events.

Housing Area Curry Mee @ Jalan Delima, Penang

Suggested by flogger:

Once I heard the Curry Mee got 5prawns and its only charge RM3.00, no matter its delicious or not, for sure I’ll go and taste it. The price will be dramatically increasing if u want ur curry mee full of ingredients.

This Curry Mee is sold by an auntie along Jalan Delima, in front of her house. Think she’s not earning much for each of the bowl that she sold. And she’s very experience for this business. I had ever seen any Curry Mee appearance was sp nice and yet it’s full of ingredient. It’s cheap too.

The stall is just opposite a kindergarten.

Curry Mee, RM3.00 (this is big portion, small portion is only RM2.70)

Got 5 FRESH PRAWNS, Tofu Puff (Cantonese said Dau Bok), Bean Sprouts, Cuttlefish, Cockles, Red Jelly (pig’s blood), with Mint Leaves on top and it’s served with chili paste in spoon. U can mix it together with soup or as a condiment, dip with the seafood. My friend said, this chili paste is not so spicy, it didn’t add in dried chilies.

Also got Yellow Noodles (lye water noodles, 碱水麵), Bihun (Bee Hoon or rice vermicelli) or mix. The curry soups are white color, should be cook with coconut milk.

Take note: NO beverage will be served. Pls prepare ur own drinks.

Pasar Ramadan @ Kelang Lama, Kulim, Kedah (Halal)

Pasar Ramadan is different compare other Pasar Pagi (Morning Market) or Pasar Malam (Night Market) in Malaysia.

It’s only operate 1 month per month during Muslims fasting month. Operating time is about 3pm to 7pm.

During the eve of fasting month, when am visiting normal Pasar Malam, wondering why no stalls are selling Satay. Is it chicken / beef wholesaler or supplier keep in the store and prepare for fasting month.

Each of the Pasar Ramadan in Malaysia will slightly different, most of it are local food.

But I didn’t see any Lekor (my favorite keropok).

Let’s see some pictures for Kelang Lama @ Kulim.

Different type / color of the drinks. I only bought 1 coconut water with meat, without additional sugar or ice and only cost me RM3.00.

After normal working time @ 5pm, u can see very crowded.

Info from Wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadan)

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān,Persian: Ramazān IPA: [rɑmɑˈdˤɑːn];variations Turkish: Ramazān) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which lasts 29 or 30 days. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smokingand sex [2] during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. Muslims fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual. Compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards by about eleven days each year depending on the moon; thus, a person will have fasted every day of the calendar year in 34 years' time. Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind, being the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

Restaurant Yosenabe (Shabu-Shabu) @ Penang

1st time eating this New Zealand Beef Shabu-shabu set for RM17.50.

Outlook shop, hard to find. Same row with Ayamas shop. See the “how to go” infos at the end of this blog.

Few highlights about this shop:

Individual Japanese nabe (hot pot) with thin sliced beef from New Zealand.

Where u’ll only eat ur own portion and it’s not shared with any1, including ur fren.

Is not like steamboat, sometime ur fren had put the ingredient that u don’t like.

Clear soup base slow-boiled with chicken stock.

I didn’t see how they cook inside the kitchen, but the soup I can tell u that I’m finishing the whole pot soup, because its so nice and tasty.

Homemade sauce using fresh ingredients.

Japanese-themed restaurant.

Besides that, this shop had 20years plus experience.

Is means they are knowing the beef is best from which country and what’s the difference between the local beef and NZ beef.

Interviewed with the boss, she said the texture and aroma of NZ beef is much more different compare the local beef, and of course, the NZ beef is nicer than the rest.

Since this shop had been operated more than 20years, therefore the local people (which means the people stay at nearby) will know the appearance of this shop and 80% of the customers are from local. Some customers will coming back again although migrated to other countries. So do I, the taste is so nice and am sure I’ll coming back again. I’m travelling to Penang town area for almost 10years plus, but I still can miss it, because I travel by using highway and their shop is just slightly lower than the landscape view.

Some nice article from Groupon:

The clear soup base is made from boiled chicken stock, with perfectly sliced New Zealand beef adding flavour and character to the hotpot. Accompanied by vegetables and mushroom, the homemade sauce tops off the shabu-shabu potpourri, leaving diners well-positioned on the Balanced Diet league. Eyes and ears feeling left out of the mouth party may focus their attention on television screens while enjoying the cool atmosphere brought about by mechanized blizzards.

Bihun (Bee Hoon), RM0.70

Mango juice, RM2.50

Enrich type.

My Step to eat this, plus with some coaches by the boss.

First, after the soup was prepared and boiled, put in the bihun, vege, and mushroom. Let the soup can taste fresh and sweet with the vege.

Then, using chopstick put piece by piece the beef.

As u can see, the beef has been sliced and its’ so transparent.

Is up to u, u can control how many percent cook for each of the beef by ur own. Some peoples like to eat raw meat, some peoples are prefer cook well or might overcook. I try few times, the best Shabu-Shabu that I like is 2seconds cook, after the soup boiled.

After finish the beef, then only u finish it the bihun and for me, I’ll finish the soup too.

It’s so tasty and fresh, the soup was added with pepper.

There’re some other package u can choose.

How to go:

From Penang bridge, the way to Bayan Lepas, turn to Crystal Suite roundabout, 3 o’clock turn to Sg. Dua, MUST keep left lane, after SJK (C) Kwang Hwa school, turn into the shop lots where you can see Ayamas shop. The Yosenabe restaurant is same row with Ayamas shop.
